Had a number of dishes here now. Their mole is stunning. Even simple dishes like a cheese enchilada taste wonderful.
The number one thing is that the ingredients are fresh. People who are sensitive about processed foods will love that.
It's very intense food also. Order smaller amounts because a full meal here is very filling. Excellent quality every timeHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 12, 20241 check-in
Preaching to the choir for all of you regulars, the food here is delicious. For those of you who have never eaten here and are curious be assured you will be well fed for a pittance. This is good quality cheap eats.
Ate seated in the covered patio. It's basic. Family friendly. You don't want to bring a first date here if you plan to impress the person with your impeccable style and taste. But if your date is a foodie, just come, no need to dress up fancy.
Bambie had the ahi tacos. I had the Oaxacan green mole' with chicken plate.
Fresh and flavorful, plentiful, plated pretty. With one beer this feast cost all of $40.
Had food left after I was stuffed for take home snack tonight.
Family owned, friendly folks, casual.

Maybe I'm choosing the wrong things on the menu? I see a steady stream of to-go orders every time we come. My husband LOVES THE LAMB. I want that stated early on! So there must be some redeeming items on the menu.
I know I liked the cochinita, so I thought I'd try more of the offerings.
Food:
Ceviche (3/5): hefty chunks of fish and good balance of supporting ingredients BUT the lime was overwhelming... that's all you taste. I got tired of it halfway through.
Queso (3/5): very cheesy but quite flat despite the interesting presentation and varied ingredients.
Molotes (2/5): the most disappointing of them all - it's so beautifully presented, but again, flavor is missing/bland. The guajillo sauce kind of saved it. I was drowning them in every salsa and sauce on the table trying to make them as interesting as they looked.
Service: requires a more laid back patience - I'm not sure they have assigned roles, but it's the second time we've had to wave down someone to ask to place an order and although it's table service for orders, we've always paid at the counterHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Jul 23, 2023Previous reviewPORTIONS: filling, reasonable
PRICE: appropriate
SERVICE: table style, medium speed
SURROUNDINGS: divey but fun
FLAVORS:
(4/5) lamb shank
(5/5) chochinita

This is an interesting, unassuming Mexican restaurant specializing in Oaxacan dishes. Additionally, there's the usual Mexican fare of burritos and a variety of things you'd find in most Mexican restaurants.
The restaurant has a small indoor dining space and a covered patio with shades and heaters, plus another outdoor dining patio out front. The place could use a bit of a face lift, yet truly it's about the food.
We were immediately seated for lunch and given menus, with our drink order, ice tea, taken shortly thereafter.
Service was very friendly and on top of things. Other tables got chips and salsa, and we did not to make us wonder if you needed to ask or order it. We didn't ask about it
I decided on trying the 'Oaxaca's Favorite' l, organic chicken marinated with herbs. There are three sauce options, and I chose the mole rojo, a classic.
The meal came with a breast, thigh, wing, and leg, all smoothed with the mole sauce. It came with a side of rice, black beans, and a beautifully cut and crafted piece of carrot in a decorative flower shape.
The mile was excellent, and the chicken tender with a crisp exterior. Everything was tasty, the portion good for the price, $18. I did find it messy to eat, navigating around the bones and licking my fingers often.
Overall, it was a very good meal, and I will return to try something else.Helpful 5Thanks 1Love this 5Oh no 1 - Juliangaston ..Olivehurst, CA55435Feb 27, 2024
Starters were solid warm chips and salsa where the star of the show the other was really just pork rinds with some weird bean paste and a good guacamole.
Main dishes were good the green enchiladas were different than most sauce was thicker but it was a great option and apparently is the popular dish.
Fajitas where good as you can see not a lot of them which was an issue but they were good none the less.
Service was on point and the decor and neat glasses really made the place pop would definitely go back and i will get the enchiladas and different appetizer next time.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - Laura W.Granite Bay, CA04Apr 22, 2024
cool spot, but felt a bit overpriced for what you get.
Fun drinks, but bit out of whack overall. Food has a different twist, very authentic which is cool but too small of portions for the price. The quality of food was good, and service good, but not a value at all.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Linsey B.Rocklin, CA23185Mar 8, 2024
Food is amazing!
They have a great vegan bowl.
It's busy so plan ahead. Parking available and service is always good.

So disappointing when we drive all the way from Reno and the sea bass ceviche was expired- they all looked at us when we tried to eat it- the second bite we spit it into our napkin- when in doubt throw it out. They didn't ask if we liked it, as it wasn't even eaten and just said do you want a box, no thank you! Here's your bill, so sad this place wasn't just as good as the first time!

Great and authentic food with plenty to take home. I had a wet carnitas burrito which I can usually finish at other restaurants but this one was too big. Great service and the restaurant was clean and nice for a casual lunch.

Pulque: Didn't know you could find this bottle, nice! It tastes like a slightly carbonated kombucha, quite sour in a vinegar way, but refreshing and ever so slightly sweet with a sort of cucumber flavor (it's made with agave and yeast). Would get again.
Molotes: I've never seen anything like hom sui gok (Chinese pork turnovers) from other cuisines before! The outside is like that, but the inside is very different (corn masa and potatoes). TBH I ate these too fast to give an appropriate review, but they are thick and crispy/crunchy fried dough outside and overall savory and a little spicy with the sauce. Would get again. They are about 2 inches in length but also filling, so get a dozen for 3 people or more
Tlayuda with tasajo: Like a crispy tortilla pizza. I really like their black bean paste. It is not too hard to share if you just cut it. The tasajo was very flavorful- just enough salt, nice chew.
Oaxaca's favorite with estofado: Ya it's my favorite, too. The sauce is complex, I don't know how to describe it. Savory, a little salty, every so slightly sweet. You will not want to waste one drop. Good on the corn tortillas with beans and rice. The chicken was very tender, just watch out for bones (they were very soft, I probably could have eaten them haha).
The dishes all had just enough salt, which I always appreciate in restaurant food.
Watermelon agua fresca: Refreshing and sweet!
The outside seating is nice, but the traffic can be a little stinky.
We will definitely be back! It is just down the way from moksa brewing, too.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 2
