Due to the popularity of the Placer Repertory Theater Literature, Literacy & Libraries educational outreach program for Fall 2021, which performs outreach to educational institutions that serve middle and high school students, Placer Rep is officially extending this outreach program through the end of the academic year, June 2022, and it now includes two milestone events as well as the original plan for a World Premiere of a new play inspired by literature. The original program performed customized language arts and dramatic arts outreach to students through October 2021 culminating in a world premiere of a new play based upon a work of Literature. “Our goal for the educational outreach program is to encourage reading, help others find their passion and inspiration by engaging with our public libraries, as our playwright was inspired to create something new by adapting a work of literature to the stage,” said Blair Hartman, Program Operations Manager for Placer Repertory Theater. To accomplish this outreach program, Placer Rep is partnered with the Rocklin Friends of the Library (RocklinFriends.org). However, when performing the outreach to educational organizations, including Language Arts and Dramatic Arts department chairs, many schools wanted to participate but were not able to schedule Placer Rep into the classroom until the second semester of the school year (2022). Placer Rep began scheduling workshops and lectures for 2022 while reviewing the program parameters and made the decision to grow the entire outreach program. While Placer Rep continues to reach out to educational institutions, they are also offering two milestone events in 2021 as an example of how one can be inspired by what they read. Saturday November 13, Placer Rep presents “An Evening with Sherlock Holmes,” featuring an energetic stage-reading of the new play Sherlock Holmes: The Sign of the Four, a post-show Q&A, and an opportunity to meet the actors, director, and playwright. More information on this event may be found on Eventbrite.com (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/an-evening-with-sherlock-holmes-tickets-188044103977) The second milestone event, on Saturday, December 11, is The Jane Austen Soiree. Partnered with Rockstar Music Academy of Lincoln, Placer Rep and Rockstar offer a rich evening that transports audiences back to the time of Jane Austen. Audiences are encouraged to arrive in period costume, enjoy beverages and nibbles, learn and join in the ‘contra danse’ just like in a Jane Austen film, hear fascinating historical information and the social expectations of the period from the Event Social Director/Hostess, participate in the audience costume parade, win beautiful gift baskets of goodies from local merchants and makers, see top-notch professional actors perform the stage-reading of Persuasion: a romantic comedy, and stay for the post-show Q&A and meet the actors, director/playwright and the creative team. As Placer Rep performs its outreach to the end of the 2021-2022 academic year, the outreach program completes with a culminating event: the mainstage World Premiere of a new play inspired by and based upon a work of literature in Spring/Summer 2022. Placer Rep is particularly grateful to be partnered with Rockstar Music Academy (TheRockstarMusicAcademy.com) for the Jane Austen Soiree event, and the Rocklin Friends of the Library for this educational outreach program. The Rocklin Friends promote and operate programs for and in conjunction with the Placer County Public Library to the enrichment of our local community. More information about the Rocklin Friends of the Library may be found on their web site, RocklinFriends.org. “We are so happy this program is of interest to so many educators. I’m particularly grateful to our early adopters, for example: Jacqueline MacKusick of Oakmont High School who offered to be a reference after we taught Playwrighting to her 48 drama club students in September 2021, Jennifer Dithridge-Saigeon, Drama Department Chair of Roseville High School who has booked us for three visitations in 2022, Media Specialist / Librarian Louise Fairbairn of Chilton Middle School for promoting our outreach program to Language Arts and Dramatic Arts educators, and Steve Pagano of Rockstar Music Academy where our Outreach Director, Kevin Foster has taught acting, voice and musical theater. We’re also excited by recent adopters, like Foresthill High School,” said Teresa Stirling Forsyth, Producing Artistic Director for Placer Repertory Theater. “While we would love to serve everyone, there is a limit to the number of schools and departments to which we can visit and provide this free service. Due to the popularity of the program, we’ve extended it through June 2022, but recommend interested educators reach out now to ensure they are added to our program calendar for 2021-2022 academic year,” said Kevin Foster, Outreach Director for Placer Rep. Audiences might recall Placer Repertory Theater as the professional company that commissioned and recently produced the “New Beginnings” event, featuring a new play about Placer County railroad history in July of 2021 who recently won Gold Country Media’s “The Best of the Best: Best Live Theatrical Group.” Placer Repertory Theater (PlacerRep.org) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit professional performing arts and culture nonprofit organization with the mission to offer educational and quality-of-life enriching professional performing arts and cultural programs relevant to the people of Placer County, while supporting local organizations and acting as an economic engine for the area.
