Lincoln, CA, July 2019: Wise Villa Winery was awarded 24 medals in the California State Fair Wine Competition. This is California’s oldest and one of the largest and most prestigious blind wine competitions in the United States. This is a huge honor for any winery especially a small family owned Placer County winery. Owner & winemaker Dr. Grover Lee beamed when he heard the news. “In my many years in Europe, I enjoyed the excellent wine, food, and small bistros. Our success had everything to do with my approach.” Said Dr. Grover Lee. “From winemaking and food pairing, to our excellent restaurant/bistro and rolling hills overlooking the vineyards. To me, the wine is all about the food and food is all about the wine!” The California State Fair awarded Wise Villa Winery with 5 Best of Class awards for their 2016 Cabernet Franc, 2017 Torrontes, 2016 Petite Sirah, 2017 Wisdom of Wise Red Blend, and the 2017 Barbera. Along with 1 Double Gold Medal, 4 Gold Medals, 11 Silver Medals, and 8 Bronze Medals in the competition. While Gold, Silver, & Bronze medals are awarded on an individual basis by the judges, Best of Class accolades are awarded in a head-to-head comparison. This fact means that Wise Villa’s Cabernet Franc, Torrontes, Petite Sirah, red blend, and Barbera were judged to be the absolute best in their classes. In addition to the Best of Class award, the 2016 Cabernet Franc was also awarded Double Gold and received 99 points. Earlier in January 2019, Wise Villa Winery was ranked in the top 3 highest awarded wineries in North America. Wise Villa Winery is also the "2015 Golden State Winery of the Year" awarded by the California State Fair. They had the highest number of high scoring wines competing against thousands of wine entries from wineries across the state. Wise Villa Winery is no stranger to winning major awards. In 2015 Wise Ville Winery was awarded “California winery of the year” presented in person by then governor Jerry Brown in his Sacramento capitol office. “This is a testament to the quality of our winemaking practices” said Wise Villa’s Co-Winemaker Kevin Luther. “From the very beginning we have focused our energies on making the absolute highest quality wine possible. We are incredibly grateful to be recognized by the judges.” Dr. Grover Lee and Kevin Luther are passionate about combining classic European wine-making methods with modern technology. Their dedication to craftsmanship and groundbreaking innovation in the vineyard and winery continue to distinguish Wise Villa from the competition. Wise Villa is a family-owned winery, estate vineyard and Tuscan-style bistro located in the Sierra Foothills Wine Appellation of Placer County.
